Nutritional Resources is pleased to introduce ACTILEAN DHA-enhanced high protein bars that we have produced for Michael Myers, MD & Weight.com. The introduction of the product will be followed shortly with the introduction of two new ActiLean DHA-enhanced protein shakes. We believe these products are unique innovations in the fight against obesity and that they may be appropriate for many patients in your practice.

Obesity is both associated with over-nutrition (usually, excess intake of saturated fats) and also under-nutrition, especially intake of the very-long-chain omega-3 "healthy fats" of EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid). Unlike the shorter chain ALA (alpha-linolenic acid), which has limited health benefits and is not significantly converted to longer chain omega-3s, EPA and especially DHA have significant benefits including:

Lipids: Improvement in serum lipids.

Hypertension: Improvement in blood pressure and vascular function.

Cardiovascular disease: Reductions in cardiovascular mortality, decrease in heart failure, and decrease in sudden death from cardiac arrhythmias.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLFD): Decrease in liver fat and inflammation.

Weight management: Improved satiety and weight loss in obese patients on a high-protein diet complemented with a high intake of DHA.
